「MOKU glass」BEGINING.

Our fascinating journey started in a modest kitchen. Arata Morita, a former chef, is now our visionary master craftsman, is aswell our mastermind artist. Arata used to work in a traditional Japanese inn known as a Ryokan, where he specialized in the traditional gastronomy of our native land.
The search for the perfect crockery and glassware for his culinary dishes was the source of the inspiration for this undertaking. Noting the poor durability of the cups used in the restaurant, he decided to turn this challenge into a creative opportunity.

After six years of dedication and experimentation, Arata managed to bring his first piece to life, blending skillfully the warmth of wood and transparency of glass.

WE.

We are a team of three artists, who stand out as pioneers in the creation of cups made out of wood and glass. We position ourselves at the forefront in the production of crockery with artistic expression, aspiring to bring our work to an international audience.
Nowadays we work in our workshop in Matsumoto, where we continually explore new ways to expand our creativity and to share our cultural vision.

MOKU glass’s METHOD.

MOKU glass’s novel craft is the integration of a smooth, wooden stem and base with a clear glass. The duality of an icy clear glass and a comfy, warm base makes for a unique drinking experience. And since the wood we use has its own individual wood-staining and lines, each MOKU glass is a unique product.

1/ Not just for aesthetics, MOKU glasses fit firmly, contoured to the shape of the human hand.

2/ Each glass is a unique product, hand-made by Japanese craft-makers.

3/ The natural stains of the wood contribute to a unique product that can communicate a special sense of taste.
